Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Hospital Statistics, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language. If something is unclear, please email us at rick@hospitalpricingspecialists.com.
1. Who we are
Hospital Statistics is a service of Hospital Pricing Specialists. Hospital Pricing Specialists is the operator of hospitalstatistics.com and is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" mean Hospital Pricing Specialists.
2. What we collect
Account information. When you create an account or sign in, we receive basic details about you. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider. If you choose to sign in with your phone number, we collect that phone number. If you sign in with an email address, we collect the address you give us.
Usage data. We collect information about how you use the site, such as the pages you view, the searches you run, the reports you open, and the type of device and browser you use. This helps us understand what is useful and what is not.
Payment information. Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your card numbers. Stripe gives us limited details about your purchase, such as the plan you chose, the status of your subscription, and the last four digits of your card so we can help you if you have a billing question.
Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep the message and our reply so we can help you.
3. How we use your information
- To create and run your account and let you sign in.
- To deliver the reports, comparisons, and other features you ask for.
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix problems.
- To understand how the product is used and to improve it.
- To send you service emails, such as receipts, security notices, and changes to your account or to our policies.
- To send optional product emails, such as news and tips, if you choose to receive them. Every one of these emails includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
- To meet legal obligations and to protect our rights.
4. Google user data
If you choose to sign in with Google, we use Google Sign-In only to authenticate you and to read your basic profile information, which is your name, email address, and profile picture. We do not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, Contacts, or any other Google service.
- We do not sell Google user data.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising, including retargeting, personalized advertising, or interest-based advertising.
- We do not transfer Google user data to anyone, except to the service providers that run the site for us (listed below) and only as needed to operate the service, to comply with the law, or as part of a merger or sale of the business with notice to you.
- We do not allow people to read your Google user data, except where you give us permission, where it is needed for security or support, or where the law requires it.
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of companies to run the service. They handle information only on our behalf and only for the purposes described here.
- Clerk provides sign-in and account authentication.
- Vercel hosts the website and the application.
- PostHog provides product analytics, so we can see how the site is used.
- Stripe processes payments and manages subscriptions.
- Mailchimp sends our emails.
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with other third parties for their own marketing.
6. Data from public sources
Much of the information in Hospital Statistics comes from public sources, including Medicare cost reports and other data published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and hospital price data that hospitals publish. This is public information about hospitals and their operations. It is not personal data about our users.
7. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies keep you signed in and keep the site secure. They are needed for the service to work. Analytics cookies, set by our analytics provider, help us understand how people use the site. We do not use cookies for third party advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site may not work properly if you block essential cookies.
8. Retention and deletion
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable time afterward where needed for legal, tax, security, or accounting reasons. To delete your account and the personal information we hold about you, email rick@hospitalpricingspecialists.com. We will respond within 30 days. Some records, such as payment records held by Stripe, may be kept for longer where the law requires it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and the use of trusted providers for sign-in and payments. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security. If you think your account has been compromised, please contact us right away.
10. Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can also ask for a copy of your information, and you can opt out of product emails at any time using the unsubscribe link.
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to not be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined in California law. Residents of other states and countries may have similar rights, and we will honor valid requests where the law applies. To make a request, email rick@hospitalpricingspecialists.com. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request.
11. Children
Hospital Statistics is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please email us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also notify you by email or on the site. Your continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
